A bed head unit is a compact hospital wall system that integrates medical gas outlets, electrical sockets, lighting modules, and data ports near the patient's bed.

What Is a Bed Head Unit?

A bed head unit is a compact hospital wall system that integrates medical gas outlets, electrical sockets, lighting modules, and data ports near the patient’s bed. It serves as a centralized solution for nurses and clinicians, providing quick access to life-support systems without compromising safety or efficiency. Modern bed head units are designed in line with international standards like HTM 02-01 and can be customized for various healthcare projects. Tecnomed offers tailored solutions with durable materials and functional configurations to match every medical facility’s requirements.

Why Gas Outlets Matter

Gas outlets on a bed head unit supply essential medical gases such as oxygen, compressed air, and vacuum directly to the patient. Their safe operation depends on HTM-compliant fixtures and precise placement. At Tecnomed, each gas outlet is equipped with pressure-sealed connectors to prevent leaks and ensure uninterrupted care. The horizontal layout also improves service access, allowing for quick maintenance. Proper positioning near the patient’s head ensures easy handling during procedures, increasing both patient safety and staff efficiency.

General Lighting with LED Modules

A hospital room’s lighting system must be both energy-efficient and medically functional. Tecnomed’s bed head units feature large LED modules that provide ambient lighting throughout the room. These high-lumen LEDs ensure a clear visual field for medical staff while also improving patient comfort. Designed with IP55 protection, the lighting system is resistant to moisture and dust, making it reliable for continuous clinical use. The wide-angle illumination helps maintain a bright and hygienic environment in every hospital room.

Night Mode and Visual Comfort

Bed head units are not only about functionality—they also enhance patient experience. Tecnomed integrates compact night LEDs that provide low-intensity light during off-hours. This allows medical staff to perform routine tasks without disturbing the patient’s rest. The unit surface features powder-coated patterns in custom hospital colors, offering a calm and aesthetic atmosphere. Combining functional design with patient-centered elements ensures that every room supports both care and comfort.

Flexible Power Integration

Electrical outlets in Tecnomed bed head units are embedded in horizontal channels, enabling repositioning based on clinical needs. Each socket is IP55-rated, halogen-free wired, and installed with safe terminal connectors. This structure reduces fire risk and allows for maintenance-friendly access. Adjustable socket locations provide flexibility for nursing workflows and medical equipment setups. These design details ensure reliable performance and compliance with modern hospital infrastructure standards.

What to Consider When Choosing a Bed Head Unit?

When selecting a bed head unit, healthcare facilities must consider both technical compliance and long-term usability. Essential factors include HTM 02-01 certification, separation of gas and electric channels, and the presence of IP55-rated, halogen-free electrical components. Modular build quality, durable materials, and flexible configurations allow customization for different room types. Hospitals should also prioritize antibacterial surfaces, grounding continuity, and ease of maintenance. Choosing a unit with these features ensures both safety and operational efficiency.

Product Variations and Custom Sizing

Tecnomed offers three primary bed head unit models: Vexillum, Clarail, and Twin. Each can be tailored for room size, gas outlet types, and lighting configuration. Standard lengths include 100 cm, 120 cm, and 150 cm, with options for full customization. Depending on the project, unit colors, outlet arrangements, and light modules are adapted to fit the hospital’s branding and clinical workflow. This flexibility makes Tecnomed’s solutions ideal for private and public healthcare facilities.

The Tecnomed Advantage

Tecnomed designs bed head units with a balance of technology, hygiene, and aesthetics. Each unit meets international safety requirements while offering a pleasant visual environment.
Medical gas alarm systems by Tecnomed monitor hospital gas pressure levels with smart sensors, WiFi control, and LCD display. Audible and visual alerts ensure safety.

The medical gas alarm is a smart indicator panel used in hospitals to monitor the pressure levels of oxygen, vacuum, medical air 4 bar, medical air 7 bar, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxide gases. It provides visual and audible alarms when gas pressures deviate from preset thresholds, ensuring safety in critical areas like operating rooms, ICUs, and patient floors.

Equipped with pressure sensors such as 4-20 mA and 0-12 V, these alarm systems accurately detect gas pressure in copper pipelines and reflect real-time data on an LCD screen. Tecnomed medical gas alarm systems support remote monitoring via WiFi or server connection and offer RS 232, RS 485, VC outputs for integration into hospital infrastructure.

Each gas type has configurable lower and upper pressure limits—for example, oxygen and N2O range between 3 to 8 bar, medical air 7 between 5 to 9 bar, vacuum from -400 to -760 mmHg. Nurses and technicians can adjust alarm settings via touchscreen control and password access. Honeywell sensors are integrated for maximum reliability. With centralized monitoring capability, a single panel can supervise multiple locations or even multiple hospitals from one center.

Medical gas alarm panels are generally located on nurse station back walls, next to regional gas control panels, or inside ICUs. They are essential for early detection of gas drops or overloads, minimizing patient risks and system failures.

Manifold systems control medical gas flow in hospitals using dual regulators, solenoid valves, and copper whips. Supports WiFi and RJ 485 central monitoring.

Systems used in hospitals include oxygen plants, medical air4 plants, nitrogen oxide plants, carbon dioxide plants, nitrogen plants and their ramp systems. Manifold systems have high pressure coming from the tubes: 200 bar for Turkey, 300 bar for Germany, or 150 bar for filling tubes, cylinders . It is the control panel that reduces the high pressure coming from the cylinders to 8 bar or 7 bar through the first regulators and to the system pressure of oxygen accordance with MDD 93/42/EEC and HTM 02-01 standards 5 bar and nitrogen oxide accordance with MDD 93/42/EEC and HTM 02-01 standards 5 bar with the second regulators. These control panels are used in hospitals with 2 redundant systems. Medical Gas cylinders are connected to manifold systems as right and left ramps. Tubes(Cylinders) ramps can be designed as 5 tubes(Cylinders), 10 tubes(Cylinders), 20 tubes(Cylinders), 30 tubes(Cylinders), 40 tubes(Cylinders) ramps that can be changed according to the quantity.

Manifold systems are central gas control panels used in hospitals to regulate high-pressure oxygen, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and medical air supplies. They reduce cylinder pressure from 200 or 300 bar to usable levels such as 5 or 8 bar, compliant with HTM 02-01 and MDD 93/42/EEC.

Each system includes dual high and low-pressure regulators, solenoid valves, bypass valves, and flexible copper whips. In emergencies, the solenoid system activates both ramps to double gas supply capacity. Manifold systems support real-time control via RJ 485 or WiFi and ensure continuity with redundant cylinder ramps on the left and right.

They are equipped with 12 service valves for maintenance without interrupting gas flow. The regulator flow rates range from 50 to 600 m3/h. Safety features include normally open solenoids, high-pressure-rated copper lines, and corrosion-resistant fittings. Manifold systems can operate as primary or backup sources, integrated with alarms and central control systems for medical gas infrastructure.

Oxygen flow measurement devices regulate medical oxygen delivery for accurate respiratory therapy in hospitals and home care settings.

An oxygen flow measurement device is a medical instrument designed to regulate and control the flow of oxygen to patients who require supplemental oxygen therapy. Commonly referred to as an oxygen flowmeter, this cylindrical device features a clear indicator that displays the flow rate in liters per minute (L/min). It connects to an oxygen source such as a gas cylinder or concentrator and delivers the gas through equipment like nasal cannulas, oxygen masks, or tracheostomy tubes.

Flowmeters are critical in hospital, clinical, and home care settings, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions. Most devices are designed to provide precise flow control in the range of 1 to 15 L/min, as prescribed by physicians based on the patient’s health condition, age, and treatment plan. One of the most widely used types is the Thorpe tube flowmeter, which consists of a vertical calibrated tube and a float that rises with the increasing flow. Another advanced type is the digital flowmeter, which uses sensors to measure the oxygen flow rate and display it on a digital screen, offering greater precision and readability.

Many flowmeters also include pressure gauges, humidification chambers, and safety valves to ensure optimal delivery and patient safety.
